In order to see the paintings of Stan Heard, you need to climb onto the roof, or even better, take an airplane. For more than 30 years, the American artist has literally plowed in the field of fine art, now and then digging out new techniques. The author himself calls the unusual agricultural creativity "earthworks" ("Earthworks"). Among his drawings in the margins are portraits, still lifes and (funny enough) landscapes.

The future field painter was born into a family of farmers and grew up in a small Kansas village. Although he later received an art education, Stan Herd never forgot his roots - which, logically, go to the ground. The first paintings, drawn by the young artist, showed wheat fields, country roads and all the delights of the battle for the harvest.

Over time, the author of rural landscapes realized that most of all he loves to write monumental canvases. And once, when Stan Heard was flying over the fields in a corn machine, he decided to paint on a new material. Since then, his native fields (and later not only his own) have become the canvas of the young painter. There were no problems with the brushes either: Stan Heard grew up on a farm, so he knew how to handle tractors and other agricultural machinery.

By the way, about the technique. It took Stan Hurd about four years to learn agro-painting. Still, after all, unsuccessful drawings in the fields cannot be simply thrown into a landfill. We have to work on the palimpsest principle: erase the image and paint a new picture on the old canvas. But the efforts were not in vain. Now, 35 years later, 60-year-old Stan Heard is an established and accomplished field artist.

Like any other painting, marginal drawings begin with sketches: Stan Hurd lays out the outline with bricks. Then the artist starts digging and plowing the earth, at the end adding different shades of soil to the improvised canvas. Stan Heard's works include custom portraits, images for advertising posters (including "Absolute Landscape" for a famous vodka company) and paintings for the soul.

In order to determine if everything is in order with the painting, the painter can step back a couple of steps. To assess the readiness of the field drawings, Stan Hurd has to climb up in a hot air balloon. But over time, art seen from the sky requires less and less refinement.
