Welcome! All denominations. All breeds. No dogma,”says a sign near the entrance to the unusual chapel, which is located in the state of Vermont (USA). Its founder - Stephen Hanek - decided in this way to perpetuate his gratitude to four-legged friends who put him on his feet after a coma. Dogs are everywhere: wooden sculptures guard the entrance to the chapel, and inside their images decorate the walls and windows.
Stephen Huneck has loved dogs since childhood. But his parents did not allow him to have a pet: the family had seven children, so an extra mouth (and in this case, a mouth) would shake the family budget. But when Stephen Hanek left his father's house, he first of all fulfilled his childhood dream. And he began to communicate even more closely with animals when he came out of a two-month coma.
15 years ago, when Stephen Hanek was discharged from the hospital, he had to learn to walk again: a useful skill was erased from memory after 2 months of coma. The dogs were always there: they wagged their tails to cheer up the owner, who was taking the first hesitant steps. During their walks, the four-legged friends always looked back at Stephen and tried not to rush.
The attention with which the dogs treated the sick owner moved him, and Stephen Hanek decided that God himself had sent him such wonderful helpers. In gratitude to the creatures of God, the furniture maker and woodcarver founded a chapel with an animal bias - a place where both the dog and the owner can turn to God. I remember that Francis of Assisi himself did not disdain to preach to a feathered audience - so why not invite four-legged to the chapel?
It is no secret that a special spiritual bond develops between the dog and the owner. Stephen Hanek argued that these animals can teach us loyalty and caring, making people better. It is for this that they go to heaven, where funny pink dogs live. You can mourn the loss of your beloved pet right here, in the chapel.
The chapel for the dog and the owner took 3 years to build and opened in 2000. In 2010, its founder, Stephen Hanek, left our world at the age of 61. All the beauty that you see in and around the room is made by the hands of the master himself. But he is known not only for wooden sculptures and dog portraits. Continuing the four-legged theme, Stephen Hanek wrote and illustrated several children's books about the adventures of Sally the Labrador, one of which is called Even Bad Dogs Go to Heaven.

Each animal in the stories of the little inventor received a funny biography and acquired habits. And until now, when Kathleen Lolly wanders through the same forest, she does everything
