The Belgian Ben Heine is a very versatile person. His many talents include drawing, painting, journalism, animation and photography. Once he came up with an original idea - to combine his two skills in one piece. This is how the Pencil Vs Camera project was born, where photography and pencil drawing are combined in one image.
Ben Heine presented his work on the Internet blog quite recently - in mid-April - but they have already gained wide popularity. The technology for creating images is simple: the author takes a photograph, and then reproduces part of the photograph on a piece of paper or draws something from himself. Well, then he just needs to combine the two images and photograph them again.
So far, "Pencil against the camera" consists of nine works. The author accompanied his first images with the comment that this is just an experiment. Well, already now we can conclude that the experiment was a success. Ben Heine's works include urban and rural landscapes, as well as images of animals. Sometimes the author makes a realistic picture, and sometimes he brings in elements of fantasy, as in the case of a four-eyed cat or a dinosaur.
Ben Heine was born in 1983 in Abidjan (Republic of Côte d'Ivoire) and now lives and works in Brussels. He is not only a talented illustrator, but also a polyglot: fluent in English, French and Dutch, and also speaks a little Polish, Spanish and Russian. Exhibitions of his works are held in Belgium, Great Britain, Romania, France, Canada, USA, Germany, Brazil, Spain and Palestine.
