Contemporary Belgian artist Ben Heine recently introduced a series of huge 3D drawingsmade in pencil. The highlight of the project is that the visualization master himself is not averse to penetrating "inside" virtual reality, at least looking at the pictures, this is the impression he gets.
The current project is a kind of continuation of the experiment "Pencil versus camera", which will surely be remembered by regular readers of the site Kultorologiya. Ru. In all his works, Ben Heine demonstrates his ability to blur the line between the painted image and the existing reality. Sketchy pencil sketches can look so organic against the background of color photographs that viewers perceive them as an integral part of the image, and 3D drawings look like a parallel world.
The amusing 3D drawings are created on a scaled sheet of paper attached to a cyclorama, a structure that allows you to create a smooth transition between horizontal and vertical planes. The deceptive impression of three-dimensionality is reinforced when we see the artist himself repulsing the barrel of a pistol aimed at him, or holding a tiger on a leash.
To heighten the effect, Ben Heine even cut off part of the leaf to make the muzzle of the revolver look more realistic. Apparently, this artistic discovery can become a favorite technique that the artist will use in his subsequent works in order to surprise us, the audience, again and again.
By the way, recall that on our website we talked about another interesting project by Ben Heine. Circular portraits of celebrities are another artistic discovery of this extraordinary master.
