The Russian proverb “a fisherman sees a fisherman from afar” has an analogue in English: “birds of a feather flock together”, which literally means “birds flock into a flock of plumage”. American photo artist Paul Octavious decided to create a visual pun and for this he "dressed up" retro cameras in plumage. Those, without hesitation, immediately soared into the sky.
Paul Octavius is renowned for his unconventional approach to visual art. On the site Kulturologiya.ru we have already introduced our readers to his life-affirming photo project dedicated to the “life” of an ordinary hill in a Chicago park. The main idea that the author seeks to convey in most of his works is the continuous flow of time, nostalgia for the past. Only this time, it was not a natural object, but a man-made one, that became the "keeper" of the memory of the past years.
The photo project was named “Birds of Aperture”. Flying cameras fearlessly dissect in the sky, as if they had wings from birth. The author was able to capture them in dynamics, so it seems that this is the look of the same photo-flyer at his relatives. Mechanisms no longer need to be controlled by humans: Paul Octavius simply breathed life into old Brownie film cameras.
In unusual pictures you can see a whole collection of retro cameras. Paul Octavius is rightfully proud of her, because, among other things, there is a camera here that he inherited from his grandfather. The photographer has no doubt that these devices will never let him down and will take excellent pictures, no matter how high he wants to climb. Perhaps only the Chinese artist Hu Shaoming can compete with Paul Octavius in his love for a vintage camera, who managed to reveal the soul of retro cameras in his art projects.
