A well-known aphorism says: "Sometimes, in order to consider the obvious, you just need to change your point of view." This is how you can define the main task of the new advertising campaign of the British edition of The Guardiandedicated to political problems in the United States.
At first glance, individual freedom and government regulation are absolutely mutually exclusive concepts. What kind of democracy can we talk about if your personal correspondence is constantly monitored by special services, and the eye of Big Brother is watching your every step? It would seem an obvious statement, but in reality everything is not so simple.
The posters, designed by advertising agency BBH New York, aim to illustrate a simple rule: there is always another side of the coin, and sometimes how we look at a problem depends on its understanding. The artist from Israel Noma Bar worked on the creation of advertising illustrations; these images, in the "inverted" form, completely change their meaning.
The series consists of three advertising posters. One of them depicts a gun ("Gun control") and contains a remark that the Constitution allows the use of weapons, and they are necessary for Americans to maintain their own safety. However, in the "mirror" reflection, you can see that the barrel of the pistol turns into a face image in profile, and under it there is an explanation that the Basic Law of the State was written in 1787, so in fact society needs to revise the laws that would solve modern problems …
The second poster, Women in Military, calls for military responsibility and reminds women that women are not as strong as men, so only the best soldiers are needed at the front. Whereas the antipode illustration turns tanks and a helicopter into a pretty woman's face, recalling the need for military equality: “Not only brute force is needed to win today's wars. We all have the right to defend our country."
The third poster "Internet privacy" is about the security of personal information on the Internet: on the one hand, users must be sure that their personal information is reliably protected, but, on the other hand, the state must conduct some monitoring in order to identify potential terrorist threats.
