The figurative painting of the young artist from Barcelona Yolanda Martínez Dorda looks fresh, bold and incredibly original. Vivid emotional pictures make you admire, and often empathize, because often Dorda turns to the topic of violence and oppression.
The artist prefers oil painting, considering that this painting technique is the most difficult to master, and in addition, it gives ample opportunities for creativity. At one of her last exhibitions, held at the Xerion Galeria de Arte, Yolanda Dorda demonstrated both female portraits, her favorite theme, as well as landscapes and even portraits of children.
Her portraits are based on the stories of both close friends of the artist and completely strangers, met only once. Often, Dorda uses images in magazines, as, for example, came with a portrait of Angelina Jolie. While her work is often emphatically erotic, she often addresses the issues of child abuse, sexism and violence against women.
“When the work is over, I look at the finished canvas for a few minutes and understand: yes, everything worked out,” the artist admits. It is this moment that Dorda values most. “I’m never bored,” the artist adds, “there is always something that attracts my attention, that motivates me to be creative.”
As for artistic influences and borrowings, the artist says that she has recently been drawing a lot from the works of the German Expressionists, as well as from the work of Francis Bacon and Marlene Dumas.
Canadian-born London artist Andrew Salgado paints curious male portraits. Abstract-figurative painting Salgado looks brutal and bold, and expressive strokes create the illusion of life and movement.

The style of British artist Chloe Early is recognizable. Yerli habitually depicts a clash of opposites: sensuality and lyricism converge in an equal duel with aggression and down-to-earthness. Her oil paintings on traditional canvas or on top of aluminum slats are deeply engraved in memory
