Joel Daniel Phillips is a young American artist originally from San Francisco, California. Inspired by the depth of human experience, Joel strives to tell the stories of strangers, those he encounters every day in the crowd, and whose faces can tell more than other books.
The artist painstakingly prescribes the details, but his work is not perceived as a jumble of elements. On the contrary, the paintings are minimalistic and monochrome, and the classic composition is the best way to help you focus on the subject.
Joel is open about a problem that society prefers to keep quiet about. And those who, as usual, are ignored, from whom they disdainfully or guiltily turn away, become the protagonists of his paintings. Phillips' large-scale works (almost human-sized), constituting a single series "No Regrets in Life" (which can be roughly translated as "I have no regrets in my life") make it possible to concentrate on the problematic without taking your eyes off.
The artist's studio is located near the bustling market square of San Francisco. It was this neighborhood that influenced Joel's work so much. In the evenings, he wanders along the shopping arcade and quietly photographs those who are destined to be the unwitting heroes of his paintings. Returning to the studio, the artist begins a long and painstaking job of transferring this tragic routine to the canvas. According to the artist, the process fascinates him. Surprisingly, it can be both meditative and resentful at the same time.
With this series, Joel made his debut at his first solo exhibition at the Satellite 66 gallery. The artist has big plans - he will have several more exhibitions at major American art venues. In addition, Phillips intends to continue working on the No Regrets in Life project in the coming year.
The problem of the homeless is also not indifferent to the Englishwoman Rosie Holtom (Rosie Holtom). Its goal was to destroy the negative perception of people who, for various reasons, lost their roof over their heads.
