Stefan Vitvitsky called the book the friend of the lonely, and the library the homeless refuge. The attitude towards libraries in the modern world is ambiguous: young people are increasingly drawing knowledge from the Internet, and library funds are becoming a "refuge" for researchers and older people who are accustomed to reading. Truth, book exhibitionopened in Bristol Central Library, will surely interest both experienced and young readers.
Libraries fight for their readers, looking for new opportunities to surprise, teach, and even entertain. Recently on the site Culturology. RF we wrote that the British Library has posted a million illustrations on Flickr, and now librarians from Bristol have found something to please us with.
Opening an interactive installation Book hive timed to coincide with the 400th anniversary of the library. In honor of this, an original honeycomb design was created. Each cell contains one book, a total of four hundred editions.
The installation was created by Rusty Squid with the support of the Arts Council England, which allocated 90 thousand pounds sterling for the project. The original design solution made it possible to combine modern technologies and old books. The "swarm" of books opens its pages at the moment when visitors enter, reacting to the movements of people, the printed editions "flutter" before their eyes.
Phil Gibby, director of the Arts Council England, noted that the creative approach allowed the creators of this installation to combine the past, present and future, and the book exhibition itself serves as food for thought and gives readers a real aesthetic pleasure. He emphasized that every person, and especially young people, should have the opportunity to learn all the wealth of art, museums and libraries. Through projects like Book Hive, it is possible to bring together philanthropists interested in the development of English culture.
