Crystal palace - one of the most interesting sights Madrid … Its peculiarity is that the building is entirely made of glass. According to the architects of the late 19th century, this is how the houses of the future should look like. A century later, the buildings were not built from crystal, but today the unique palace is used as an exhibition hall.
In 2006, an original installation by a talented Korean artist appeared here. Kimsooja … She managed to "decorate" the walls and floor of the palace in all colors of the rainbow. At the behest of the artist, the glass dome of the palace was covered with a special film, and mirrors were placed on the floor, reflecting the entire spectrum of colors.
The resourceful artist supplemented the visual effect with a soundtrack. While in the Crystal Palace, you can hear the recording of Kimsuji's breathing. She borrowed this idea from her earlier performance "The Weaving Factory". The breathing rhythm is not uniform, so the viewers have the opportunity, together with the installation's author, to experience various psychological states.
Kimsuji's installation is a real gem of the Crystal Palace. Many other works of this artist are also known all over the world and have received universal recognition. Thus, a talented Korean woman has repeatedly participated in the Venice Biennale, as well as in the Whitney Biennale.
