Like a spider's web, in which small moths and midges get entangled and die, people are drawn into web of wires, spread out where there are household or office equipment. At work and at home, we flounder in wires from computers, scanners, printers, microwaves and washing machines, chargers for phones and cameras … And the artist and sculptor Barbara Licha prefers to tangle wires on his own, creating amazing sculptures … Barbara Leach, born Polish, now lives and works in Sydney, and is fond of creating so-called "mixed media" or mixed media. However, among her paintings and collages, a special place is occupied by sculptures made of wires, with which Barbara makes it clear how people are dependent on these very wires. And sometimes - in the literal sense of the word.
So, the artist weaves from wires caricatured figures of people who are locked in cages from the same material. Other figures hang on wires, trying to free themselves, while others have resigned themselves to their fate, and simply live their lives peacefully, plunging into this web with their heads. And although they sometimes manage to escape from their snares, the wires still do not let them go completely, forcing them to live in eternal dependence.
The work of Barbara Leach strikes the imagination not only with the symbolism and freshness of the idea, but also with its scope: some sculptures made of wires will be taller than human height, which makes them look somewhat frightening. These and other works can be seen on the Barbara Licha website.
