The lighthouse is a guiding star that guides ships in the dark and gives hope. Apparently, therefore, one cannot remain indifferent to his "dying". Perhaps among their "relatives", Rubjerg Knude Lighthouse, located on the coast of the North Sea in Denmark, can be compared with Don Quixote, only he is fighting not with windmills, but with relentlessly advancing sands!
On the site Kulturologia. Ru, we have already repeatedly talked about amazing lighthouses, among which there was one that shows the general mood in the city, as well as a miracle lighthouse turned into a hotel!
Rubjerg Knud, like many lighthouses around the world, is a long-liver! It first lit a fire on December 27, 1900, and since then, it has helped many ships find the right path. It was built on the coastal slope at the highest point 60 meters above sea level. The structure towered 23 m in height, and it was clearly visible to the ships. However, over time, the sea came closer and closer, the wind brought a large amount of sand to the cliff, which gradually accumulated around the lighthouse.
They tried to save the lighthouse: they built barrage wooden structures around it and planted plants to strengthen the soil, but all efforts were in vain. The elements mercilessly engulfed the lighthouse and nearby houses. The last time the beacon sounded on August 1, 1968, since then it has no longer functioned.
In the beginning, the Rubjerg Knud lighthouse was used as a museum and a coffee house; many tourists came here to see with their own eyes the destructive power of nature. However, in 2002, the sands finally "won" the lighthouse from people, and it became impossible to visit it. Scientists believe that within 15 to 20 years, it will inevitably disappear from the face of the earth.
Perhaps the best epitaph for a dying lighthouse can be the lines of Alexander Blok: “This is what happened. The whole world has gone wild, and the surrounding area No lighthouse flickers. And to those who did not understand the broadcasting of the stars, the surrounding darkness is unbearable."
