"The faces are erased, the colors are dull - either people or dolls, A look is like a look, and a shadow is like a shadow …" This is how Makarevich sings about the puppets in his booth. However, dolls designed and assembled by a French company Royal de luxe in Nantes, it is impossible to confuse with people! Their distinctive feature is their gigantic size. More recently, an unusual event called "Marine Odyssey" with the participation of these dolls passed in Liverpool!
We have previously written about the giant puppet show in Berlin, timed to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall and the reunification of East and West Germany. Then two huge puppet puppets “walked” along the German streets - the Big Giant, a deep-sea diver, and the Little Giantess, his niece.
This year, the occasion for a three-day festival in Liverpool was the centenary of the sinking of the legendary Titanic. All the same heroes told a new, no less touching, story about how a girl who lost her father in this catastrophe went with her uncle to the scene of the tragedy.
The idea of the performance is based on the true story of William McMurray. He was lucky enough to get a job as a steward on the largest liner! Even before the departure of the Titanic, his daughter sent him a letter, but the message did not manage to reach Liverpool in time, so it soon returned back to the girl with the tragic news of the death of the ship. Unfortunately, William was never able to escape. In modern Liverpool history, a giant diver decided to go to the crash site of the liner to find at least some belongings of his deceased brother. While the puppet girl wandered around the city waiting for her uncle, she was accompanied by a pretty cute dog! The story ended with a happy ending: the girl waited for her uncle from his dangerous journey!
Note that the size of the dolls is really impressive: the girl's height is about 9 m, and her uncle is about 15 m! The dolls are moved with the help of special cranes, the attendants on which are similar to midgets in comparison with giant puppets! The girl, her uncle and her faithful dog are not the only inventions of Royal de Luxe; earlier, a giant elephant and even a huge robot-spider walked along Piccadilly Street in London!

Captured by the sands: the Rubjerg Knud lighthouse in Denmark is gradually sinking underground
The lighthouse is a guiding star that guides ships in the dark and gives hope. Apparently, therefore, one cannot remain indifferent to his "dying". Perhaps, among its "relatives", the Rubjerg Knude Lighthouse, located on the North Sea coast in Denmark, can be compared with Don Quixote, only he is fighting not with windmills, but with relentlessly advancing sands
"Puppets". Installation by street art master Belin
Whether we like it or not, we are all puppets to one degree or another. Someone tries to manipulate us openly, others pull the strings so skillfully that you can live and not notice it. To paraphrase the great Shakespeare, the whole world is a puppet theater, and the people in it are puppets. In continuation of this theme, we present an installation by the Spanish author Belin, which is called “Puppets” (original “Titeres”)
