Whether we like it or not, we are all puppets to one degree or another. Someone tries to manipulate us openly, others pull the strings so skillfully that you can live and not notice it. To paraphrase the great Shakespeare, the whole world is a puppet theater, and the people in it are puppets. In continuation of this theme, we present an installation by the Spanish author Belin, which is called “Puppets” (originally “Titeres”).

The installation took place last year and was timed to coincide with the 5th anniversary of the Montana Shop & Gallery in Barcelona. Belin is a master of graffiti and is used to painting city walls, but this time his works have decorated the interior of the room. The author approached the disclosure of the theme of "puppets" creatively: he depicted stretched faces and figures, but he attached real threads to them. The result is an original work in the now fashionable mixed media style.

Of course, in fact, the puppets look somewhat different than the author portrayed them. However, the name of the installation was chosen very correctly. We are all pulled in different directions, sometimes just tearing us apart. Acquaintances, friends, relatives, the media … How flexible and elastic will each individual person be in such a situation? Does the level of flexibility vary from person to person? And does a person himself change under the influence of "puppeteers" who pull the strings? And then, when the tension on the rope weakens - do we return to its original state or remain “stretched” forever? As is often the case, Belin's work primarily asks questions rather than answering them.

Belin is a contemporary Spanish street art master. In his works, the author mixes photorealism, expressionism, surrealism, graphic design and graffiti to achieve the most unexpected effects. Belin is a pseudonym derived from the artist's real surname Belinchon. You can see other works of the author on his website.
