Very unpretentious and easy to use, inexpensive and malleable, such material as paper has always been held in high esteem by the masters of modern art. British artist Jennifer Collier she also could not resist the simple charm of this material, and for many years she has been creating incredible from old newspapers and magazines, geographical maps and reference books paper sculpturesdepicting those devices that we use every day in everyday life, or we associate our hobby with them. Jennifer herself tells about her work as follows: “Paper, or rather, the waste paper that I use for work, in itself serves as an inspiration for me, and also as a material. This two-in-one cannot but please me. I really like that I give a second life to those things that would otherwise end up in the trash. And turning them into sculptures, I allow them to delight people with their appearance for a long time to come."
Most of all, Jennifer Collier loves to "sculpt" road maps or gazetteers. In its "first life" this literature was very useful, and after "death" it became also beautiful, turning into a camera or video camera, binoculars or compass, shoes or dress. The telephone directory in the hands of the sculptor became a telephone, and an old newspaper or textbook became a typewriter. Everything has its place!
Jennifer Collier lives and works in the capital of Great Britain, London, where her paper sculptures will be presented at the Origin Craft Fair on September 22-28. However, you can get acquainted with the artist's work on her website.
