Throughout history, especially in the last century, we see examples of how creative people used drugs for inspiration in the creation of their works. But never before has an artist created his paintings directly FROM the drug. Cliff Maynard was the first, and I must admit, he did pretty well.
Cliff Maynard, a 37-year-old artist from Pittsburgh, PA, creates paintings from half-smoked marijuana cigarettes. With the help of a knife, he cuts the butts into the necessary elements, and then folds the image out of them, as if from pieces of a mosaic. From one cigarette, three "pieces of the puzzle" are obtained, as the author himself calls them, but how many such elements he combines in one image - Maynard is not taken to count. Cliff's work is quite painstaking: it takes at least 70 hours to create one painting measuring 20x25 cm.
“I studied the art of mosaic at school,” says the author. "And then I drew parallels between pieces of tiles or tiles and cigarette butts." Let's face it, the parallels are rather strange. Unlike the artist's paintings - not knowing what they are made of, it is not easy to guess about their origin. The gallery of Cliff Maynard's works includes portraits of famous people, recreations of paintings by old masters and even biblical subjects. Interestingly, the first painting by Cliff was exactly the portrait of Christ.
It should be noted that Cliff's paintings should not be perceived as drug propaganda. The author just came up with a non-standard idea, and he implemented it. In the end, everyone creates as they can and from what they can.
Creating paintings, of course, is not Cliff's main occupation, although his profession is also quite original - he is a tattoo artist. But the original hobby also brings a good income: the price of one painting starts at $ 2000 and can reach $ 10,000. More information about the artist and his work is on the website.
