Video: "Interventions" in urban life from SpY
2024 Author: Richard Flannagan | [email protected]. Last modified: 2023-12-15 23:55
Madrid street art representative SpY calls his work "intervention", that is, "intervention". Without changing anything in urban landscapes, the author only introduces small touches and amendments into them, as a result of which witty and playful works are obtained.
SpY began his creative career in the 1980s as a graffiti artist. Since then, he managed to try himself in different areas of street art and now prefers the above-mentioned "interventions". And the author "intervenes" in anything, bringing new and unexpected meaning to road signs and markings, sports grounds, sculptures on the streets, fences, walls of buildings …
Balancing between irony and positive humor, SpY strives to ensure that his work not only brings a smile, but often encourages serious thought. In general, the main goal of the author is to stir up people, make them escape from the routine and bustle of the city. SpY works can be found not only in Spain, but also on the streets of New York, Paris, London, Amsterdam, some cities in Japan and Latin America. As the author argues, cities are huge frameworks for his activities, but it is never known in advance where a suitable space for "intervention" will appear.
SpY, often referred to as the Madrid Banksy, prefers not to reveal his face or tell any facts about his biography. He even gave an interview to a German magazine via e-mail. According to the artist, only art should matter, not how the author looks or who works: “There is nothing interesting in me. I would even say, on the contrary: the less you see me, the better."
More works of the author can be seen on his official website.

Filmmakers of the older generation will undoubtedly remember Savva Kulish's cult film Dead Season and its most dramatic episode - the exchange of a Soviet spy for an English agent.
