Water pistols - favorite toys of children of all countries and peoples: shooting from them is not painful, but fun, and very pleasant in the heat. But on photographs by Thomas Kaunekas shooting with water turns into real wounds and destruction. Why is the artist so cruel? Thus, he wants to draw attention to not toys, but real problems of humanity.
The heroine of the cult trilogy "Terminator" Sarah Connor, looking at children with water pistols, reflects on the madness of war and that people are involved in this madness from early childhood. And for Tomas Kaunekas, a famous photographer from Vilnius, shooting from water pistols became an occasion to think about environmental issues - namely excessive waste of water by humanity.
Children squealing watering each other with streams of water, cheerful girls trying to hide themselves from water shots with pillows - do they really think about the fact that while they are spilling the most ordinary water, somewhere in this world the deserts are already approaching someone's home? Of course not. Meanwhile, the lack of water turns into unsanitary conditions, epidemics, mass poisoning, hunger and destruction of natural landscapes. But this is somewhere far away, in the countries of the third world … But aren't people like us living there? We can learn about what many of the local cities are at risk of becoming from the eerie photographs of Alvaro Sanchez-Montanes.
The sum of small and large human tragediescaused by the water crisis, the artist expresses with blood and pain: the gaze of a businessman who has sent a water "bullet" into his temple grows cold, a child with a breast pierced by drops falls under the table, transparent streaks on the bathroom curtain are mixed with red … Of course, it was not without computer graphics, but the photographs never cease to look realistic, albeit a little deliberate.
It is difficult to say how successful the idea is to draw public attention to environmental issues using the image of a water pistol. However, it is already good that Tomas Kaunekas is trying with the help of art serve humanity is an inevitable path for an artist with a responsive heart and open eyes.

Anyone who is not afraid to wet their heads is bald or shaven-haired men. It's just business that to get a bald spot wet with a napkin, and then wipe it with a rag.
