Recently, an amazing sculpture appeared in the California city of Santa Rosa: made in the form of an Egyptian obelisk, it consists entirely of old bicycles. And if in ancient Egypt stone obelisks glorified the god Ra and the pharaohs, then in the modern world this structure is a kind of call for an ecological lifestyle.
The sculpture, named "Cyclisk", was installed at the initiative of the city authorities, as well as the official Nissan representative in Santa Rosa. In the city there is a tax "1% on art": it is levied on all commercial projects whose value exceeds $ 500,000. creation of an unusual obelisk. The sculpture, almost 20 meters high and weighing about 4.5 tons, took 340 old bicycles to construct, donated by local non-profit cyclists' communities.
“We wanted a real landmark to appear in the city,” say the authors of the project, sculptors Mark Grieve and Ilana Spector. “When we saw the site of the future sculpture, it seemed to us that on this small piece of land in Santa Rosa there should be something high.” According to the authors, their decision to partner with cyclist communities turned out to be mutually beneficial: the old parts of someone's favorite bicycles did not go to the landfill, and the city received a new sculpture.
What clothes from the 1990s are at the height of fashion again: The time for boiled bikes and bicycles (and not only) has come
Fashion is cyclical, and designers, indulging in nostalgia, periodically suggest returning to a particular era. And this time they decided to make a stop in the dashing 90s, where a riot of colors, oversized robes, experiments with style and the most unexpected combinations reigned. Interestingly, this time, non-couturiers were the first to pay attention to the trends of the last decade of the 20th century - the style first appeared “on the streets”, later settled in social networks, and only then eminent fashion houses drew attention to it
The famous contemporary Chinese artist Ai Weiwei uses Chinese themes and Chinese motives in almost every work. But each time he does it in a new way, reveals them from new, unexpected angles. Here is his new work, entitled Forever Bicycles, also applies to the Middle Kingdom, namely, the bicycles on which most of the inhabitants of this country move
According to Wikipedia, there are over a billion bicycles in the world today, making them the most popular form of transport. However, cyclists strive to attract more and more people to their ranks and often do it in a very original way. We have already written about the bicycle obelisk that appeared in the USA. The initiative of the Americans was taken up by the residents of Sydney, having installed a sculpture of a huge "Penny Farthing"
We have already seen the works that this artist creates, and it is difficult to forget them - not everyone can boast of skulls carved from fruit. But Dmitry Tsykalov, already known to us, did not stop there: he does not carve anything out of wood, but human organs, arranging it into an installation, and releases photographs of girls hung with meat weapons
Each new installation by the famous Chinese artist Ai Weiwei causes a wide resonance in society, because this master of outrageousness knows how to surprise. We have already written about his installation "Forever Bicycles", 120 bicycles he installed in 2011 in Taiwan. Bicycles, one of the most popular types of transport in China, have become a real symbol of the Celestial Empire in the work of this artist. This year, 3144 two-wheelers have already become the highlight of the annual Nuit Blanche festival held in
