There is censorship in the press not only in totalitarian and authoritarian countries, but also in completely democratic Germany. Indirect evidence of this is the work of students at the University of Wiesbaden Hochschule RheinMain called Presswerk, devoted to pressure on the print media.
Students Moritz Gemmerich, Marie Niamh Dowling and Helen Schneider studying design at Hochschule RheinMain University in Wiesbaden, Germany, are concerned about media pressure in their country. And so they created an unusual album of illustrations called Presswerk (combining the roots of "press" or "press" and "work").
In this 212-page album, they have placed about a hundred photographs of various things, taken at random and placed in a completely random order. The only thing that all of them have in common is a crushed state. In the photos in the album, these things look like they've been crushed by the press, and quite dramatically.
This effect is the main concept of the Presswerk album, illustrating its message. Under pressure, things and concepts cease to be themselves, are distorted beyond recognition. And for greater illustration, at the very end of the Presswerk album, in the table of contents, there are photographs of all these things before the press.

Painting under the press. Leather Ornaments by Ariana Russell
Each of us probably noticed marks on our skin after we leaned it against a bumpy surface, for example, folds in bedding. This feature of our body was used in her work by the American artist Ariana Russell, turning her body into a canvas for unusual paintings
Who was able to press Beria himself, and for what the chief of the legendary SMERSH was shot
The personality of Colonel-General Viktor Abakumov is rather contradictory - on the one hand, he is a courageous man and an excellent counterintelligence officer, on the other, he is a cruel and merciless fighter against the notorious "enemies of the people." Whatever it was, but he lived an extraordinary life: being born in a simple family, he made a dizzying career takeoff and “fell”, having experienced all the hardships of a victim of unjust repression before his death
The flip side of Sharon Stone's fame: What the Hollywood star hid from the press
In the 1990s. she was called one of the most successful, sought-after and famous Hollywood stars and one of the most desirable women in the world. And at the beginning of the XXI century, Sharon Stone suddenly disappeared from the screens and stopped appearing in public. For a long time, nothing was known about the reasons for this pause in her film career - the actress carefully concealed from the public what she had experienced. And only recently she talked about how she once found herself on the verge of death, and how at that moment the closest person left
Cars under pressure: original installation by Ron Arad
What do a herbarium and a car park have in common? At first glance, nothing. However, Israeli designer Ron Arad strongly disagrees with this statement: his installation "Pressed Flowers" is a collection of Fiat 500 cars that have been under pressure at the shipyard in Groningen (Netherlands) and steel look like dried flowers
Sculptures about how civilization puts pressure on nature. The work of Pim Palsgraaf
Where wild animals used to roam freely, trees and grasses that have now disappeared from the face of the earth grew, where birds, exotic at the moment, built their nests, today factories smoke, cars drive, houses are built, people walk … land, and often - in the immediate vicinity of large industrial centers and densely populated areas. No, I do not want to say that this is bad. From our point of view, no. But animals are gradually dying under the yoke of civilization
