Painting and dream are practically the same thing. But how can an artist emphasize all the mysterious, soft dreaminess of the world that he sees? American painter Dan May found an artistic method that allows you to do this: the world of his works is strewn with soft and long waves of hair.
The artist was born and raised in the city Rochester, NY. Graduated Syracuse University (not in Greek Syracuse, but in his home state), where he received a bachelor of arts degree. His works are of interest, are exhibited in galleries, Dan Mei collaborates with numerous illustrated magazines. The main object of his creative interest is world of fairy tales, the world of human dreams, whimsical imagination and soft fantasy.
The connection between hair and dream is not obvious, but it does exist. Even in folk tales, the very long hair of the characters was considered a sign of their mystery, mysticism, immersion in some special inner world. A striking example is fairytale heroine Rapunzel, whose longest braids were the result of her non-escape imprisonment in the tower.
Hermits, with their patla grown almost to the toes, symbolized by their very appearance detachment from society, isolation in their own experiences and dreams. Anyway, hair is a strong and emotionally colored image: remember, for example, the creepy ghost from the movie "The Ring", whose face is covered with long hair, and this makes you even more frightening. We already talked about the artistic effect of hair in the article about unusual insect sculptures.
But, if some artists, using this image, seek to scare, then Dan May's furry world, entwined with waves of hair, does not cause any fear - on the contrary, looking at his paintings, you involuntarily plunge into some kind of dreamy melancholy. At times soft texture kind monsters and thoughtful animals make you want to touch their soft fur coats. It seems that it is worth blowing on this whole world, and it will scatter in different directions, like the fluff of a chinchilla - and then it will return to its place again. Calm - but exciting, free - but withdrawn, unstable - but eternal. How a real dream.

So, the finest hour has come for those girls who did not shy away from needlework lessons at school and listened carefully to their mother or grandmother, who taught knitting and embroidery to "their clever girl."
