What can be in common between weapons and sweets? Absolutely nothing, they are complete opposites of each other: the first symbolizes death and destruction, the second symbolizes joy and childhood. It is on this contrast that he builds his paradoxical creativity Hungarian-born Kata Legrady
Before talking about the work of Kata Legrady, it was curious to remember: in whose work was the attention focused on weapons? Of course, meat weapons from Dmitry Tsykalov immediately come to mind - just one of the incarnations of his provocative creativity. You can also remember the whole article “Weapons in Modern Art”, which tells about machine guns and pistols made from everything from Gzhel to food. The works of Kata Legrady, however, are not mentioned there, but we can conclude: if there is even a hint of a weapon in art, it is almost always provocative and paradoxical.
Kata Legrady was born in 1974 in Hungary to a musical family, studied music and singing at the conservatory. She began to engage in art only later. Now he lives and works in Germany, in the city of Hanover.
In his most famous project, in which the most dangerous weapon, for example, the best-selling pistol in the world "Beretta", is covered with a scattering of skitts or other sweets, Kata Legrady touches on the theme of two opposing worlds: mortal and harmless, carelessness and suffering, childhood joy and the horrors of war … Kata Legrady is one of those artists who are worthy of respect, at least for the concept of her work. Multicolored pellets on grenades and machine guns are not something that anyone can think of.
Paradoxical creativity Kata Legrady, of course, is not limited to these works, but the artist's website is still under construction.
