Letters and numbers exist not only to fill the pages of books and magazines, but also to show off on stands and signs. Artist June Corley from Alabama has known this for a long time and not by hearsay - for many years she has been collecting large and small, wooden, plastic and metal letters with numbers left over from signs that have fallen into disrepair. From this material, she then creates unusual, very interesting sculpturesthat look like weird little people or animals. June Corley actually makes her living working as an art director for an advertising studio and a graphic designer. Sculpting with letters and numbers is her favorite hobby, which takes a lot of time, but comes with even more pleasure.
By the way, June Corley came up with the idea to turn all these objects into sculptures by accident. So, one day she was transporting her alphanumeric collection from her home to her office in Atlanta, and accidentally dropped the box. When the contents spilled out, she suddenly saw her collection in a new light: letters, numbers and other details had a variety of shapes, from which it was possible to assemble animals, insects, fish … This is how June Corley's new creative hobby was born.
June Corley is interested in three types of typographic objects: numbers and letters from signage, vintage letters and numbers that were used to type pages in typography, and various details and elements from mechanical devices that resemble faces, faces, physiognomy. All this eventually becomes those strange creatures that we see in the sculptures of the talented artist. The complete collection of sculptures can be seen on June Corley's website.
