James Nares paints his large-format canvases in a horizontal position, just hanging over a huge canvas. He does all this in order to avoid smudges of liquid paint, which could spread over the canvas if the artist were in an upright position. Smudges of liquid paint would destroy the entire effect of the image, which is interesting in the movement and color of the colorful stripe. The artist's strokes are spontaneous, but clear, he paints a picture of almost photographic quality.
James Nares was born in London, England. He studied at the Chelsea School of Art and also studied art in New York. Since 1974 he has been living in the Big Apple. His paintings can be found in many private collections, as well as in the Paul Kasmin Gallery. Although he is better known as an artist, he also worked in the world of music and film.
