American Tom Every became interested in creating sculptures from scrap metal long before the term "steampunk" was coined. Now 70-year-old author Dr. Evermore's Scrap Metal Yard is a whole park of metal sculptures, which Tom is still working on updating and replenishing.
Scrap Sculpture Park is located in the town of Sumter (Wisconsin, USA). For tourists, it is a must-see, because in addition to dozens of original works, here you can see the largest sculpture of scrap metal in the world. It is called Forevertron, weighs 300 tons and measures 15.2 meters high and 36.5 meters wide. To create this work, the author used metal elements of machines and apparatus aged from 50 to 100 years, fastening them together with bolts and welding.
In addition to the giant Forevertron, the park hosts many other works, including the Bird Band and Orchestra, which consists of 70 birds of various sizes. Old pipes, flutes, xylophones, bells were used to create the sculptures … The author assures us. That some of the iron birds can actually make some kind of sound.
Tom Avery prides himself on keeping the original materials as intact and intact as possible in his work, connecting them together to achieve the desired shape. In addition, the author does not make any preliminary sketches or drawings: future sculptures exist only in his head, and during the creative process, Tom complements and changes his ideas directly in the course of the action.
By the way, Dr. Evermore, whose name appears in the park's name, is a fictional character. Tom came up with it to explain the creation of the Forevertron sculpture: according to legend, Dr. Evermore built this giant machine to fly into space.
