China has long been famous for its artfully painted porcelain, but times are changing, and now instead of vases, talented craftsmen apply intricate patterns on TVs, tape recorders, bottles … It sounds rather strange, but this was the idea that came to the mind of the artist Ma Jun, who decided combine 20th century technology and traditional Chinese art in your work.

Ma Jun's idea was as follows: the master made from porcelain reduced models of TVs, tape recorders, cars and other objects that appeared in the 20th century and became its integral attributes, and then painted them all in traditional Chinese technique. Among the author's works there are even bottles of “Chanel No. 5 "and plastic bottles" Coca-Cola "!

The series of painted porcelain objects has been named "New China Series". Work on it began in 2005, and since then Ma Joon has been constantly replenishing it with more and more new products. For example, the author is currently working on the creation of porcelain books. It should be noted that in the process of work, Ma Jun had to face a number of difficulties: after all, clay is far from such a flexible material as the plastic that the author imitated. Nevertheless, the master coped with the task brilliantly: his TVs and bottles are just like real ones!

The New China Series clearly demonstrates the processes currently taking place in modern China. This is a clash of Western values and ideas with traditional national culture. Globalization is slowly but surely blurring the distinctions between cultures and peoples around the world, but Ma Jun is demonstrating to all of us that China's national traditions are not going to die. The combination of the achievements of the 20th century and ancient art in one work is a kind of agreement between the past and the future and proof that they can peacefully coexist with each other.
