Throughout history, this oldest house has been patronized by queens. Jewelry from Mellerio dits Meller was admired and bought by Queens Maria de Medici and Maria Antoinette, Empress Josephine, Queen Isabella II of Spain. And they already knew a lot about jewelry …
Now this jewelry house is run by the fifteenth generation of the famous dynasty. And its history began in 1613, when Maria Medici convinced the Italian jeweler Jean-Baptiste Mellerio to move to France. When the family of the jeweler emigrated, they were given special privileges - the right to duty-free trade in valuable items throughout the territory belonging to France.
In the 18th century, Queen Marie Antoinette herself, a great lover of jewelry, was also interested in Mellerio jewelry, which became widely known among the Parisian nobility.
She bought this bracelet around 1780.
In 1815, the Mellerio dits Meller store was opened on Rue de la Paix among the most glamorous and luxurious shops.
In 1854, Mellerio patented the use of a flexible base for setting stones, which made it possible to simulate the movement of the wind. This invention was used to create jewelry with cascades of flowers and foliage, presented at the Paris World Exhibition in 1855. The diamond bouquet of snowdrops looks very beautiful on a flexible base that allows the flowers to gently wiggle when moving.
Oriental style snake bracelets made of gold, enamel, diamonds, rubies, spinels and emeralds - circa 1860.
A flower tiara made of yellow gold, silver plated, turquoise and diamonds can be turned into 8 brooches. Around 1860.
In 1862, at the London Exhibition, held in London, the award was given to a stunning brooch from Mellerio in the form of a lilac branch. It is made so skillfully and naturally that looking at it, it seems that you can even smell the lilac.
Rosebuds made of gold, silver plated, diamonds - circa 1864.
At the Paris Exhibition of 1867, a gold and silver brooch in the form of a peacock feather, decorated with diamonds, sapphires, rubies, emeralds and enamels, received a gold medal - one of the iconic jewelry created by the Mellerio house.
In 2013, the 400th anniversary of the Mellerio dits Meller jewelry house was celebrated, and the Secrets de Lys collection of jewelry was prepared for this event. They decided to dedicate it to the French queen Maria de Medici, the first famous customer. The French-Canadian designer Edeenne was involved in the work on the collection. The unique diamond necklace with rubies and pearls deserves special attention, reminiscent of a lace collar, gently enveloping the erogenous zones of the neck and back.
Mellerio has also been recognized as the official jewelry supplier for two other royal families - the Netherlands and Spain.
This beautiful tiara was made by order of the Queen of Spain Isabella II, which she presented to her eldest daughter Isabella as a wedding gift.
