Light is one of the most popular materials used by contemporary artists to create their works. But, if before that they were limited only to painting and installations, then the American Leo Villareal declares that he is making full light sculptures!
Light is a universal material with which a talented artist can express any idea he has conceived. Consider the amazing works by the Spanish ensemble Luzinterruptus or installations by Lee Eunyeol. There are more and more authors working with light every day. One of them is the American Leo Villarreal, who calls his works "sculptures of light".
Of course, they are not any sculptures in the literal sense of the word. In form, they are more reminiscent, albeit very unusual, but pictures. However, the author claims that these are sculptures in terms of their semantic meaning.
A series of similar light sculptures by Leo Villarreal is now on display at the Connersmith Gallery in Washington DC as part of the Miami Contemporary Art Exhibition.
Leo Villarreal himself says that in these "sculptures" he tries to reimagine the art of the twentieth century through light, color, scaling, movement, minimalism and popular music.
With the help of colored LEDs that dynamically change their color, the intensity of the glow and the position in the "sculpture", Leo Villarreal seeks to lead the audience into a kind of hypnotic state. Indeed, in it, a person easily lends itself to external suggestion, and, in this case, the transfer of ideas from the author to the viewer.
