Mountains and plains, steppes and fields, forests and valleys can not only be photographed, drawn, explored, but also made into origami. More precisely, not just one of them, but imitating all these landscapes on paper, leaving, however, only the image, and entrusting realism and detail to other masters of contemporary art. So, a Japanese designer Yuko Nishimura became the author of an original art project called Relief, in which he presents all these natural landscapes and objects in the form origami paper mandalas … This patient maestro spends many hours at work, folding and folding paper pages in the hope that they will become masterpieces that reveal the secret of the delicate, vulnerable and creative Japanese soul. The paper mandala combines traditional techniques and modern aesthetics through a monochromatic color scheme, and unlike typical origami, they remain two-dimensional enough to be considered sculptures.

In fact, folds, notches, grooves and bulges on paper mandalas are small - light plays a huge role, more precisely, its source and position. It is he who creates the effect of the three-dimensionality of these images, and turns the folded sheet into a work of art, where each fold is in its place, and is a cog in the complex mechanism of the general art project.

Each of these monochrome paper paintings reflects the artist's Japanese soul and Japanese culture, passed down from generation to generation. The charm of the master's works lies in their simplicity, and more about the project can be found on the Yukio Nishimura website.
