Snails - creatures are small. Only a few of them can reach sizes over half a meter in adulthood. But in the French city of Angers recently there were two giant representative of this class of molluscs. This is due to the work of a Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman.
Florentin Hoffmann is one of the most famous contemporary gigantic artists. Even Zurab Tseretelli can envy the fame and scale of this Dutchman's work! For example, his giant thatched muskrat, established in the vicinity of the town of Nieuwerkerk, or the huge yellow hare that appeared on the pavement in the Swedish city of Orebro.
Florentin Hoffmann's new work is dedicated to garbage. Or, to be more precise, garbage and snails.
The sculptural composition Slow Slugs is located on a street in Angers, France. It was created within the framework of the Accroche Coeurs festival - an annual event that turns the streets of the mentioned settlement into a huge stage area, which hosts concerts, theatrical performances and exhibitions of works by contemporary authors.
The Slow Slugs sculpture consists of two huge snails created from a metal frame, rope "ribs" and multi-colored plastic bags used as outer shells.
Each of these sculptures is eighteen meters long, seven and a half meters high and five meters wide. And we can confidently say that these are the largest snails in the world!
All over the world there is a process of replacing plastic bags with paper ones. And Florentin Hoffman came up with a great way to use this almost outdated packaging material in art!

The snail is a very unusual animal. For example, the ancient Egyptians and Babylonians saw in it a symbol of eternity and fertility, but medieval Europeans - sin and laziness.
