Sometimes, in order to convey a certain idea to people, you have to do things that are not the most pleasant for them, in the hope of "catching" the viewer. The sculptor Oliver Powels in his provocative works uses an "untouchable" thing for many moralists - baby dolls.
As a child, Oliver's grandfather told him stories about World War II and Nazism, which had a strong influence on himself and his work. The turning point in his 15-year career happened at school, where he was sent to the local puppet theater. There he became interested in dolls and the bizarre world that they created around them. However, the matter was not limited to playing with dolls, and already at school, Oliver began to create his first sculptures, using toys and various equipment such as radios.
Grandfather's tales of war and propaganda haunt Oliver. His creations emerged as a protest against cloning. Attempts by people to play God, creating artificial life, greatly annoy him.
His sculptures are based on traditional dolls, which he transforms using various implants, some of which are mobile, so that one day an army of dolls may rush into battle. They are made from recycled materials, so they don't need recharging and they have no fear. They will obediently follow the commands of their creator, if necessary. Someday, somewhere.
Oliver creates figures that carry the cruelty of the past, present and future. They make the viewer think, however, their author is not a prophet of the end of the world, he "just" wants to warn us that one day can happen, cherishing the beautiful, outside and inside. His world is dualistic, because the dolls, despite the semantic message and external cruelty, remain just dolls.
