Xena was born in Bahrain but raised in Britain. At the age of 18, while working in Egypt, Xena became one of the youngest qualified PADI SCUBA diving instructors. Over the next several years, Xena worked as an underwater videographer, filming films and underwater photography for tourist clients and their families in the Cayman Islands. In 1995, she returned to the UK and focused on her own creativity, photographing children and babies underwater, pursuing underwater photography and expanding her portfolio.
Zena Holloway is considered a leading specialist in underwater photography in the UK and abroad. Her high-quality footage of children swimming underwater has been featured in a number of programs: The Radio Times, Paris Match, The National Enquirer and the BBC Human Body series. In 1998, the Royal Society of Photographers awarded her the prestigious Silver Medal for the Waterbabies photographic project.
“Working upstairs is very distracting,” explains Zena Holloway, describing the disadvantages of shooting in the studio or outdoors. When shooting underwater, the photographer is far from noise, she is fueled by some kind of magical power, she is doing something unusual, and she has a huge space to do something unique and creative. There are not many great underwater photographers, but Holloway believes that no one else shoots exclusively underwater except her.
Xena is very serious about her choice of models, she needs to see them underwater. Sometimes you come across a person who has no diving experience at all, but has great potential, which fits perfectly into the plot, and which the camera loves. And then the British photographer first teaches his models, gives instructions on diving, talking about how to hold your breath.
