If you have read the works of Lewis Carroll about Alice's adventures in Wonderland, then you probably remember the episode where Walnut Sonya tells the girl the story of three Sour young ladies who live in a well with jelly and draw objects with the letter "M": mousetraps, month, math and a lot. As a little girl like Alice, I had no idea what a set was and how it could be drawn. But? looking at the works of an American artist Robert Steven Connett, it begins to seem that the set looks exactly like that. Connett's paintings are as dark and confusing as their author's past. And as bright as his present. Probably, the artist is one of the few surrealists who really went through hell, and there he drank not only grief, but also inspiration. And he also brought a muse with him, who now vigilantly follows the creativity of her ward, prompting him ideas, correcting images, choosing colors …
Say, is all this extra pathos to attract attention? Judge for yourself: in his youth, drugs, repeated calls to the police, overdose … Then, as it was thought, a second chance and a new life, paint and painting, work and money. And also - a constant companion of a green serpent and an eternally clouded brain. Then drunken recklessness, a fire in the house, the loss of everything that was acquired, again syringes with heroin, again on the verge of death … I wonder where the muse was at that time, and whether the artist took up paint and a brush?
However, the craving for creativity still overcame the vices, and after a period of work in the porn business, Robert Stephen Connett finally switched to painting. He claims that for almost the first time in 50 years he feels in his place and is absolutely happy. This is probably why the artist's paintings are so "two-layered" - on the one hand, gloomy and depressing, and on the other - bright colors and the already mentioned multitude. On the one hand - evil spirits, monsters and skulls, and on the other - outlandish insects, animals and other unearthly creatures that do not look evil and dangerous at all.
You can compare the works of Connett with the work of Giger. Or you don't have to compare, just looking at his online gallery and wondering with each new work.

Why paintings celebrating the beauty of dark-skinned women made a lot of noise
The works of Harmony Rosales literally “blew up” social networks with their eccentricity, audacity and outright provocation. Her work in a matter of minutes turned the world upside down, causing the scales of emotions, indignation and criticism. After all, not every day you can see pictures that challenge not only a certain group of people. but to all mankind: the dark-skinned Virgin Mary, Eve, the Queen of Sheba, as well as the image of God in the guise of a dark-skinned woman are just a small part of what made a lot of noise

Gods, Witches and Saints: An Immersive World of Dark Surrealism
The wind shakes the crowns of the trees, the clouds are approaching, and the skeleton, embracing the girl, mysteriously smiles at something. The song sounds, a wondrous melody spills over the hall, and people in ritual clothes gather for the ceremony. And somewhere out there, in a dark room behind closed doors, the gods and goddesses, and with them the wicked witches, fulfilling human desires, play unfair games … This could be a prehistory to some next cult book by a young author of our time, but alas, and ah is what awaits
Symbolism, surrealism and fantasy, or the whimsical paintings of Dragan Ilic
The surrealist works of the Serbian artist Dragan Ilic (aka Di Vogo) combine seemingly incompatible things, in which fantasy motifs and bizarre images are closely intertwined against the background of symbolic landscapes fanned by a metaphysical atmosphere. All this and much more was invented by the author for a reason, because, thus, he not only drew a fine line between reality and fiction, but also showed the viewer how far p
