Beijing-based designers Song Yuan and Peng Yu are famous for their installations created from real corpses or human body parts. And although their new creation does not contain organic elements, the very realism of this sculpture scares no less than any real dead body.

The sculpture by Sun Yuan and Peng Yu is called "Angel" and depicts a fallen angel in the form of an old woman with peeling feathers. It seems that this woman is either asleep or dead, but in any case, she lies motionless inside a huge net made of woven mesh. As conceived by the authors, the goal of the project was to define a thin line between the mundane and the supernatural: the angel, who is a transcendental being, turned out to be powerless, unable to carry the will of God, unable to help those who believe in him. It turned out to be real, but its existence is meaningless.

The designers wanted to make viewers feel what it would be like if a fictional creature looked so real that it would simply cease to be mythical, and became a part of the surrounding world. In fact, of course, the sculpture is made of silicone gel, fiberglass, polymer materials, metal base and artificial fibers. However, the hyper-realism of the embodiment creates a certain paradox in the viewer's head.

This kind of hyperrealistic sculptures are known Patricia Piccinini: her fictional creatures are so ugly and repulsive that their realism makes the viewer's impression even more vivid, as if he really came face to face with a real monster.
