A well-made wooden sculpture is not a frequent phenomenon these days, but for an American Morgan Herrin (Morgan Herrin) manages to create stunning pieces through his craftsmanship and distinctive style. It is no coincidence that strict critics call the author's work a new word in modern sculpture.
The author's last work "Untitled (Knight)" combines two themes: armor of the 15th century and the geological structure of the cave. “Studied separately, the two subjects are completely unrelated,” says Morgan Herrin. “Human-made geometrical armor is the exact opposite of organic stalactites and stalagmites.” And nevertheless, despite the apparent incompatibility, these elements are perfectly combined with each other in wooden sculpture, forming a holistic and harmonious work.
We see no less original solutions in the author's earlier sculptures: a bust of a Roman commander and corals, a girl pierced by arrows and a huge globe. In a word, Morgan Herrin is interesting not only for his amazing technique, but also for non-standard plots. According to the author, his work should make viewers think about the passage of time and the superiority of the forces of nature over man.
Morgan Herrin was born in Dallas and currently lives and works in Richmond, USA. Graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University (BA) and Ohio State University (MA). The author's first solo exhibition will open on November 4, 2010 at the Mulherin Pollard Gallery in New York.

Paper sawn from wood. Sculptures by Randall Rosenthal
With a quick glance at the works of Randall Rosenthal, it is difficult to notice anything unusual about them. Newspapers, paper money, notepads, maps, diaries … It's hard to believe, but in fact there is not a single gram of paper in them: all these are sculptures that the author cut out from a solid piece of wood and then painted by hand
Wood sculptures Morgan Herrin: Pinocchio of the 21st century
Wood is one of the first materials that humanity turned into works of art. The relatively soft texture has a beneficial effect on any impact of the instrument, taking the desired shape. The sculptor Morgan Herrin is especially good at reshaping a standard wooden block. In his hands, the wood turns into a human figure, knightly armor, the outlines of the beast and everything that the sculptor thought of
Wood Art: Mathematical Wood Harmony Cha Jong-Rye
Wood art is a trend that was in vogue back in the era of stone axes. Wood still remains an indispensable material for works of art - and even such non-standard ones as living wooden sculpture. But when working with already sawn wood, not every artist will be able to fully use the natural wood texture, its rings and fibers. The way the Korean sculptor Cha Jong-Rye does it
Dream collages or collages-dreams of the artist Eleanor Wood (Eleanor Wood)
When we sleep, we always dream of something, or almost always. And our dreams are most often a reflection of our reality, or dreams. We are very worried about something or something very much, and this is always reflected in our dreams. And so the artist Eleanor Wood decided to fantasize what ordinary people, young and old, dream about in their dreams and presented the audience with a series of "dreamy" collages
Beasts and birds in the afterlife. Taxidermy sculptures by Polly Morgan
When a beloved animal or bird dies, when you have to put your pet to sleep, when a wild animal dies under the wheels of a transport, which has jumped out onto the track, it is very insulting and sad to tears. Usually people seek to bury the animal, providing it with at least some decent last refuge. But artist Polly Morgan suggests a different solution. She turns the carcasses of dead animals into taxidermy sculptures, presenting them in very unusual and unusual roles. Sound
