A thin incandescent needle of the pyrograph slides slowly over a wooden plank, leaving a hot scar, a brown imprint of fire, on its smooth, polished surface. It freezes for a second, and again continues on its way, led by the firm hand of an experienced master along the pencil contours drawn in advance by the same hand. Mark by mark, stroke by stroke, soon the plaque will be completely covered with marks burned out by a red-hot needle. And how it will magically turn into an amazing painting depicting an animal, bird or plant. The sorceress's name is Julie Bender, she is an American artist and a virtuoso master of pyrography, in other words, wood burning. An artist by training, Julie Bender graduated from college in 1980, but nevertheless, it was not until 2002 that she found her true calling, trying her hand at pyrography. Having bought her first pyrograph from a junk dealer, she made her first "fiery" painting, and was surprised to find that it had turned out very well for the first time. This is how the process of self-study and self-improvement of the artist in the art of pyrography began, which, by the way, continues to this day, despite her solid experience, fame, recognition and a whole collection of stunning paintings burned with a thin needle on wood and watercolor paper.
Of course, the quality of the instrument also matters a lot. Fortunately, modern pyrographs no longer look like mini-soldering irons, but are devices that look more like tattoo machines. Yes, interchangeable attachments can be obtained with ultra-thin tips to accurately outline contours, correct shadows and midtones, and emphasize the smallest details of the image. It is a pleasure to work with such a tool, the main thing is that there is enough patience and perseverance, but Julie Bender claims that she was very lucky to get the necessary qualities by inheritance, and she can selflessly enjoy her favorite hobby, which has turned into an equally beloved work. The artist walks a lot in the fresh air, stocking up on inspiration, because she burns out mostly animalistic paintings, where all attention is focused on horses and dogs, sheep and zebras, various birds and rodents that live their lives in a two-dimensional "fiery" world created thanks to the art of pyrography …
The artist spends many hundreds of hours working on paintings, because she believes that only those who work with dignity and quality have the right to a decent and high-quality life. Diligence and diligence, as well as talent and many years of honing it, helped Julie Bender by the age of 52 to develop an individual style of "hot painting" with a pyrograph, unique and inimitable, and most importantly - recognizable. Her creative approach and incredibly beautiful work is highly regarded by fans of original works of art. They are ready to pay fabulous sums of money for paintings the size of a notebook, up to 4 thousand dollars. You can see these works on Julie Bender's website, and the video shows how she does it:
