For filming, not only actors but also cities have to change their appearance. Remember how many different "foreign countries" were filmed in the Baltics and the Caucasus for Soviet classics like "The Diamond Arm" or "Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson." He mastered the difficult art of reincarnation and the South African city of Cape Town. The vivid photographs of Frenchwoman Cecile Mella capture the sun-hot streets under fake snow and buildings that have changed their "nationality".
Photographer Cecile Mella (Cecile Mella) was born in the French Montpellier and managed to live in several cities, including fate brought her to distant Cape Town. The author of striking photographs collaborates with news agencies, and her photographs are illustrated by such world famous media as The New York Times, The Sunday Times, The Guardian.
But the photographer was not at all interested in the natural beauty of South Africa, which thousands of tourists flock to see every year. Cecile Mella's "Fictional Cape Town" series focuses on the video advertising industry.
Cape Town video production is not at all like the locally flavored films produced by Indian Bollywood or Nigerian Nollywood (yes, it happens). Most of the filmed tapes are commercials commissioned by foreign companies - manufacturers of gum and yoghurt.
The weather here is warm and sunny all year round - ideal conditions for vivid photographs and successful video filming are provided. True, you can sympathize with the artists involved in the "winter" advertising: the actors literally have to sweat, portraying how cold they are under the fake snow.
But advertising artists are not the only ones to perform well. And Cape Town itself is a true master of transformation. The typical African city successfully portrays itself as "European" or "American". The local farm "makes up" for the Dutch farm, and the usual Cape Town eatery for a couple of days becomes a Parisian cafe.
This is where the photographer Cecile Mella appears, who captures Cape Town, which has once again been transformed - a city that, like any good actor, probably has a thousand faces.
