What is the difference between a creative person and a common man in the street? The man in the street looks at the garbage bags and remembers that one package is running out at home. Whereas the artist sees them as material for work, or even presents ready-made works of art, for example, sculptures, as does the Pakistani sculptor Khalil Chishtee … Future-proof and flexible, this material does not require physical strength to process it. But fantasy and imagination will work wonderfully well. And not only from the author, but also from those who will later consider his sculptures, filled with philosophical meaning. The fact is that both the trash bags and the images that Khalil Chishti embodies are very symbolic - these are stereotypes that form politicians and the media about people from India, Pakistan and other Arab states.
So, after emigrating to the United States, the author has repeatedly come across the fact that the Americans treat people from Pakistan as bandits, hooligans, terrorists, or just garbage, garbage, third-class people. This attitude is undoubtedly very insulting, surprising and frightening. This problem is no simpler than environmental problems, therefore, it also needs to be told to the world, which Khalil Chishti did, creating a series of sculptures from garbage bags about people who are perceived as "garbage".
In addition, each image has its own philosophical interpretation. Ladder man means a politician or any other careerist who walks over the heads of other people to achieve their sometimes very selfish goals. Here we see two homosexual couples who are also persecuted and insulted. And the figure of a black man literally melting in the arms of a white comrade. Without words - everything is already very clear. The series of sculptures is called Emotional Figuresand its sequel can be found on Khalil Chishtee's website.
