It is very easy to make a photo look like a painting: a little magic and a Photoshop filter - and the result is guaranteed. Beautiful and with a swing of high art. And who can think of doing painting - as photo? Connoisseurs of contemporary art will answer: many, very many photorealist artists. For example, a realist Duffy Sheridanwhose paintings are very similar to photographs.. Photos taken by a real artist.
American painter Duffy Sheridan (1947, California) began painting as a child, being a hereditary artist. His family did not like comfort and peace, but wandered to exotic places, and especially to the islands: the Falkland Islands, the tropical archipelago of Samoa …, sky, swarthy girls and green palms.
Of course, Duffy Sheridan is not Gauguin, but since the beginning of the 90s, his fame deservedly began to grow. His photorealistic portraits made the artist famous as a significant and interesting master. After all, the first serious works of the painter fell precisely in the 70s, when art- hybrid of photo and painting began to conquer the world. Today, Duffy Sheridan's works are highly regarded by collectors, and the Art Renewal Center has awarded him the title of Living Master.
However, his paintings speak better than any titles for the artist. The advantage of photorealism over ordinary photography lies in the artist's freedom: he is not obliged to obey nature in everything, and although it is considered canonical to use photographs when working, a master can change a lot in the depicted nature. In comparison with pure painting, photorealism is distinguished by its authenticity and clarity of forms.
Of course, all these advantages easily turn into disadvantages, but Duffy Sheridan knows the measure in everything and does not slip into ultrarealism. The artist is especially successful in women's eyes: Sheridan perfectly conveys the power and charm of a direct gaze that bares the soul. The human soul that stands behind any art - be it photography, painting, music or dance.
