In our understanding, a museum is a large-scale academic building with a rich collection dedicated to the theme of this institution. However, on one of the streets New York exists Museum Mmuseum, which completely destroys this stereotype, it is located inside the old, long-not exploited elevator.
The glass elevator leading to the twentieth floor of the Volkswagen Museum in Wolfsburg is an integral part of this institution, the most famous exhibit in it. A similar institution recently opened in New York. But what distinguishes him from his German “colleague” is the fact that the elevator in it is the museum itself.
Mmuseum opened thanks to the work of several enthusiasts who took notice of an abandoned elevator in an old industrial building in New York City. They decided to rent this dysfunctional mechanism in order to turn it into a museum of the city in which it is located.
This quite small, one-room museum contains several dozen exhibits that most people would not even consider as such. These are quite ordinary things for New York - garbage bags, shoes, clothing items, a coffee brewing machine, toothpaste tubes, empty bottles - glass and plastic, glasses, books, newspapers and much, much more.
Separately, these items have no value, including artistic value. However, being collected in one museum, and even organized in an old elevator, they become an organic monument to life in a big city, in New York.
