In his aesthetic treatise The Birth of Tragedy from the Spirit of Music, Nietzsche outlined his views on the dualistic nature of art: the confrontation between the Apollonian and Dionysian principles gives rise to a work of art. A vivid illustration of how beauty emerges from chaos can be considered the original photo project of the South African artist Chris Slabber entitled Destruction / Creation ("Destruction / Creation").
Photos by Chris Slabber want to be looked at for a long time, studying the smallest details. Captured drops of paint, dissolving in water, take on bizarre outlines, reminiscent of fantastic creatures. To enhance the visual impact, the author compiles these silhouettes with portraits of women and men. One gets the impression that a mysterious figure is born from the chaotic movement of paint molecules.
Chris Slabber admits that this unusual photo project was inspired by the work of the Italian graphic designer Alberto Seveso, who creates sensual female portraits. The multicolored "clouds" of paint in the Destruction / Create project seem to hide the outlines of graceful female figures. Refined golden, black and azure silhouettes intrigue the viewer, one gets the feeling that the girls are trying to break free from their colorful "cage".
The author says that in this project he tried to show how creative the power of destruction can be. A drop of paint, dissolving in water, gives birth to new images, but at the same time, helplessly perishes in every subsequent moment.

Ted Grant was convinced that when a photographer captures people in color, he photographs their clothes, but when he switches to black and white photography, he captures their soul. The task of the Geneva-based photographer Alex Teuscher was even more difficult: he chose wild animals as models for the series of portraits. Monochrome images made it possible for the artist to present the inhabitants of the zoo to the viewer, as they say, in a new light
