John Lopez - a talented sculptor, author of numerous works. He creates life-size metal sculptures of animals that look vaguely reminiscent of steampunk creations.
A variety of textures, an abundance of details and decorative elements - these are the distinctive features of the master's sculptures. It's a pleasure to look at them. Most of all in the collection of John Lopez horses, but there are other animals. John created his first creations from bronze, but then "switched" to recycling scrap metal. As practice shows, the material turned out to be quite suitable.
The idea of creating such sculptures is not new, on the site Culturology. RF we have repeatedly written about real professionals who literally give a second life to scrap metal. Among the most outstanding animalistic works are Joe Pogan's birds and fish, Doug Makemson's dogs and Miina Ekkiurkki's cows.
The idea to create sculptures from scrap metal came to John Lopez by accident. Several years ago, he needed to build a fence at the family cemetery. True, the necessary materials were not available, so he went to his uncle's ranch, took from there all the unnecessary metal things and made a gate out of them, decorated with a small figure of an angel. Satisfied with the result, John Lopez discovered a new hobby.
John Lopez is a native of South Dakota, so it is no surprise that he most often creates sculptures that illustrate the realities of his daily life. On his ranch, he repeatedly saw horses and cows, brave cowboys and wild animals living on the prairie. “I’m never bored,” says John Lopez, “every new sculpture helps me hone my skills, grow, develop.”
