Captain Hannah Winterbourne, who rose to prominence in the UK for becoming the highest paid transgender military in the country, married a local actor who also happened to be trans. Hannah was born a man, and her husband Jake was born a woman, but both are glad that they not only managed to meet each other, but that they can live the life they want.

Hannah began her career in the military while still a man, but six years ago during a trip to Afghanistan, she decided to start gender reassignment therapy, which also included surgery. Despite all the ambiguity of her decision, she met with support from her colleagues. "The British army is the coolest," Hannah comments on the situation. "The army is not standing still, their views have changed, they understand everything."

“We are doing really hard work, and we want to completely trust the person next to whom we are or may be in a dangerous situation. That's why you don't care who is next to you - transgender, gay, black, Muslim - what's the difference if everyone are equally focused on the same work and on the result. All my colleagues have given me great support and I am glad that I am doing this work."

Hannah and Jake appeared on local television after their wedding, where they revealed that they planned their honeymoon in Tel Aviv and hoped to have children in the future. Jake himself, who can be seen in the film "A Girl from Denmark," began his transformation when he was 25+ years old after a rather difficult childhood and adolescence. "The fact that I was born a girl, but was supposed to be a boy, I realized at the age of three, and I always spoke about it aloud.

“For the last 20 years I worked as a nanny, looking after other people's children, and I came to the obvious decision that I now want my own children. Hannah gets along well with the children. but anyway, we'll do it."

Talking about their own parents, both Hannah and Jake admit that it was not easy for them to accept that their children did not want to live with the gender they were born with. “My mom continued to call me by my old name for many years,” says Jake. “But of course, she did it out of love and because it’s so difficult to understand such a flow of information. A year after my operation, she confessed to me that she sometimes cried for her little girl. That confession broke my heart. But in the end my mom became my most ardent cheerleader."

"Our parents are very happy for us now," Hannah says. "Although it certainly took them many years to understand and accept who we are." Hannah Winterbourne, 31, and Jake Graf, 40, married a little earlier in London, and went on their honeymoon to Israel, known for its tolerance.
