These are only dollars made in the same green and black color scheme for all bills. The rest of the currencies in the world have much more bright and colorful colors. This is what the artist took advantage of. Rodrigo Torrescreating a series of collages of banknotes from around the world.
Different artists “mock” banknotes in different ways. For example, Hans-Peter Feldmann makes wallpaper out of them, Scott Campbell cuts them, and Craig Sonnenfeld folds origami from banknotes. But Rodrigo Torres turns currencies of different countries of the world into collages.
In his work, Rodrigo Torres assumes that every banknote in the world is the result of the careful work of some artist, most of whom are real professionals in their field. And these money often depict, indeed, interesting places and personalities, moreover, they are depicted in a very high quality and beautiful way. So why not use all these world best practices in your art?
Rodrigo Torres decided to turn banknotes from dozens of different countries into original works of art that combine traditions, cultures, historical and architectural landmarks of peoples from all over the world. In real life, some of them have a very small chance of meeting, but in the work of Torres it happens!
Creating these works, the artist cuts out interesting, in his opinion, elements from banknotes, and then combines them with each other, turns them into layers of the future collage.
Torres comments on the meaning of these works in this way: “At first glance, it is just a mixture of images, the same as mixing colors in ordinary painting. But, in fact, these collages symbolize the mixing of cultures, languages and economies in the modern world, globalization under the pressure of money capital."
