Her clothes, like her paintings, can rightfully be called the manifesto of the revolution. Bold and bright outfits, adorned with communist symbols, spoke a lot about Frida's ideological convictions and her desire to proudly declare herself. Frida turned the hard corset, which had to be worn after a spinal injury, into a real work of art, decorating it with drawings. And the prosthesis, which she used for walking after the amputation of her leg in 1953, was “put on” in a red lace-up boot with a ringing bell.
After her death, her husband Diego Rivera ordered to keep Frida's clothes after her death; he asked to pack all the things and leave them in their house in Mexico. Diego passed away 3 years later, he passed away in 1957. However, things remained intact for about half a century. In 2004, the Frida Kahlo Museum decided to compile an inventory of everything that remained of the artist's memory. Japanese photographer Ishiuchi Miyako documented the contents of Frida's wardrobe. He photographed more than 300 pieces of rare personal belongings of the artist, they can be seen in the illustrated collection he published called "Frida".
