In the late 1990s. the name of this actress became known to thousands of viewers - the main role in the film "Country of the Deaf" brought her recognition and fame, Dina Korzun received several prestigious film awards for this work. After that, not only Russian, but also foreign directors began to invite her to shoot, she was recognized as the best actress at several international film festivals. But after one day the actress found herself as a volunteer in one of the orphanages in Nepal, she reconsidered her life priorities, and the acting profession was far from the first place among them …
Childhood in a communal apartment and concerts in the kitchen
Dina Korzun was born and raised in Smolensk. The actress never talked about her father - her mother alone was engaged in her upbringing. She worked in a hosiery factory, and her daughter, as a child, decided that she would become an artist. They lived in a communal apartment on the outskirts of the workers, and its neighbors were the first spectators. Together with other children, they arranged concerts for their parents. A blanket served as a curtain, jump ropes replaced microphones, and everything else was real: chairs were placed in several rows in the common kitchen, spectators were given tickets with the date and time of the performance indicated on them, consisting of variety and circus numbers.
During her school years, Dina studied ballet and modern dance, and also graduated from art school. Her passion for painting led her to the art and graphic faculty of the Smolensk Pedagogical Institute, but a year later Korzun applied to the acting faculty of the Smolensk Musical College. There she also did not stay long and in 1990 she left for Moscow and entered the Moscow Art Theater School.
After completing her studies, Dina Korzun became an actress of the Moscow Art Theater. A. Chekhov, and almost immediately they began to trust her with the main roles. But on the stage of this theater, the actress performed for only 5 years, and then suddenly felt disappointed. She said: "".
Starring role in "Land of the Deaf"
Dina Korzun gained wide popularity and recognition thanks to her roles in films. Before she was offered the lead role in "Land of the Deaf", she starred in only one short film and appeared on the screen in a small role in the film-play "Three Sisters". For most viewers, her name at that time did not mean anything, and after the film was released, the actress was called one of the main discoveries of cinema of the late 1990s.
Director Valery Todorovsky, together with Yuri Korotkov, wrote the script for the film "The Country of the Deaf" based on the story "Possess and Belong" by Renata Litvinova. The main roles went to Chulpan Khamatova and Dina Korzun. The deaf dancer Yaya, played by Korzun, became one of the most striking film characters of the late 1990s. The criminal line, without which not a single film of that period could do, was not the main one in the "Land of the Deaf". Yuri Korotkov said that the world of the deaf was at the center of the plot: "".
Todorovsky's film received several prestigious film awards, among which there were 3 Nika awards (including Best Actress for Dine Korzun), Golden Aries, Best Director at the Seattle Film Festival, and a nomination for the Golden Bear of the Berlin Film Festival …They started talking about the debutante, and soon her talent was appreciated not only by domestic, but also by foreign directors.
Recognition abroad
2 years after the film "Land of the Deaf" was released, Dina Korzun received an offer to play the lead role in the British film "The Last Rest." At the 54th Edinburgh Film Festival, it won the Best New English Film Award, and Dina Korzun won Best Actress awards at film festivals in Spain and Greece. Unfortunately, this film was never released in Russia.
In 2005, the actress starred in the American film "40 Shades of Sadness", which won the main award at the Sundance International Film Festival, starred in the joint project of Germany and Georgia "Mediator" and in the French film "The Farewell Scam", played the main role in the Franco-American tragicomedy Frozen Souls. Her last film work at the moment was the role in the British TV series "Peaky Blinders" in 2016.
Today she is called one of the most popular Russian actresses abroad. At the same time, Dina Korzun does not pursue the goal of conquering Hollywood and prefers arthouse projects to blockbusters. And, despite notable successes in foreign cinematography, I am still firmly convinced that it is not for Russian actors: "".
The main work of life
She had a happy family, she took place in the profession, but at the same time she could not get rid of the inner feeling of emptiness. And in 2005, Dina Korzun went to work as a volunteer for several months in one of the orphanages in Nepal. And upon returning from there she met with Chulpan Khamatova, with whom they became friends during the filming in the "Land of the Deaf". The actress has already held charity events, they decided to join forces and after a while established a charity fund "Give Life", which collects funds for the treatment of seriously ill children.
The actress admits that the Grant Life Foundation, which has existed for more than 14 years and has helped 48 thousand children, taught her fearlessness, gave her a feeling of real happiness and made her reconsider her own views: “”.
Dina Korzun now
She has never stated that she wants to say goodbye to cinema forever, but she is not ready to compromise with her own idea of the acting profession, especially since she no longer considers this to be the main occupation in her life. The actress admits: "".
Several years ago, a flurry of criticism fell on Dina Korzun's friend: What helped Chulpan Khamatova survive the mass condemnation.
