Karl Liebknecht owns the idea that "science and art are free children of nature, the primordial forces of man." Undoubtedly, these completely independent areas of culture have many points of contact. A striking example of this is a new direction in art, bacteriography … This original type of painting created microbiologist Zachary Kopferusing E. coli bacteria placed in Pierce's cup for his paintings.
According to the artist himself, creating paintings with the help of bacteria is akin to the process of developing photographic film. Live bacteria are placed in those places where the main details of the image will be located. For greater expressiveness, Copefr "adds" a fluorescent gene to the bacteria. Then he places the negative of the photo he wants to reproduce on the lid of the Petri dish. The bacteria form clusters in the right places, after which the artist sterilizes the resulting painting with radioactive radiation.
The collection of works by Zachary Kopfer includes portraits of Albert Einstein, Darwin and Pablo Picasso, "space" landscapes depicting the Milky Way and distant galaxies, as well as "zoological" sketches. The microbiological artist comments on his work in the following way: “I am looking for ways to synthesize seemingly dichotomous areas - science and art. I believe that the separation of art and science is a misconception shared by many who are not familiar with the simple elegance of scientific theories. For me, the world of science has always been a beautiful and poetic field of knowledge, more sophisticated than any other.”So far Zachary Kopfer has no followers, but from time to time in art there is an interest in microorganisms. On our website Kulturologiya.ru we have already written about the watercolor portraits of viruses and bacteria, created by the artist Michelle Banks.

Undoubtedly, it is not given to everyone to engage in science - one lacks abilities, the other perseverance, the third - movement and impressions, the fourth - motivation. But no one has ever tried to draw people's attention to science in general, and scientists, in particular, as the artist Simon Bent from Australia did.
