The name of Nikolai Slichenko thundered throughout the USSR. Actor, director, singer, whose voice was known to millions of music fans in the Soviet Union and abroad. He was carried in his arms after concerts, lined with flowers the way to the car. One famous opera diva said she was ready to put her life at his feet. The fans sighed hopelessly, and he idolized only one woman all his life.
Passionate eyes
Tamilla Agamirova, a young graduate of the Baku Theater Institute, gave concerts in Sverdlovsk, where the gypsy theater "Romen" came on tour. The legendary Lyalya Chernaya met a girl at the hotel and, not yet suspecting that in front of her was a professional actress who had already played a countess in the film "Don Quixote", she saw true talent in the girl.
Black invited Tamilla to the screening, after which Agamirova was unanimously accepted into the troupe of the theater. She easily won the hearts of the art council, and this is not surprising. Tamilla Agamirova, an Azerbaijani with a tsarist article, was incredibly beautiful. In her face there was so much grandeur and inner light, so much femininity and refined grace, mysterious oriental grandeur … She possessed not only musical talent and plasticity, but also a good acting school. A true star with an unprecedented creative potential came to the theater, who could play both in the ancient Greek tragedy and in a modern play.
Soon Tamilla became the first actress of "Romen", she acted a lot and successfully in films, was adored by fans when the aspiring actor Nikolai Slichenko came to the theater.
Chief gypsy
Before the nationwide recognition, Slichenko had to go through a difficult path. He was born into a family of sedentary gypsies near Belgorod. The boy's childhood fell on the war. In front of Kolya's eyes, the Nazis shot his father. The family had to endure many hardships until they were accepted into the collective farm. When Nikolai heard about the existence of a gypsy theater in Moscow, he, without hesitation, went to audition and was accepted into the troupe. However, for several years he had to work as an auxiliary artist.
Once, at one of the theater's holidays, literally without preparation, an acapella, Slichenko sang a gypsy romance. Everyone froze in the hall, then the silence exploded with thunderous applause. Some even had tears. Still: to keep such a talent on the sidelines …
Since then, the artist's creative career has gone up sharply. He starred in many films, played more than 60 roles in his native theater, became famous as a performer of pop, gypsy songs and old romances. The people called him "the main gypsy of the Soviet Union".
In 1977, Slichenko became the chief director of the Romen Theater. This "temple of art" is unique in that it is a unique professional gypsy theater in the world.
The actor admits that "Romain" is his whole life. Here he spent more than half a century, and most importantly, he met his love.
Inseparable
In the gypsy theater, not only a strong creative union was born, but also a family that for more than fifty years has not lost tender feelings for each other. Tamila and Nikolai can spend hours silently looking at the fire in the fireplace in their country house, be silent, but only to be near, feel warmth and see their own eyes. The couple already have grown-up children, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, but the wife is still his muse, and he is her stronghold.
Nikolai recalls that at first he and Tamilla had to live in a tiny room in a communal apartment. There was no money for the wedding, because the theater paid mere pennies. But there was love. And also the feeling that in a previous life they were also together. So everything worked out amicably for them: the two of them established family life, clearly distributing responsibilities around the house, raising children together, giving each other a rest when the kids were not allowed to sleep at night. Together they built a dacha, planted trees …
They say that you have to part for a while in order to preserve feelings, but this is not the case. Slichenko said that, leaving on tour, he was madly longing for his wife. Once she was urgently issued a visa abroad so that he would not break the contract.
They always did everything together, even went to night school together. Tamilla also sat at her desk, although she already had a higher education. She knew that Nicholas, who was prevented by the war from receiving a certificate, would be easier if they began to study together.
Since then, wherever he gave performances, she was always next to him. Tamilla quietly stood behind the curtains, listening to Nikolai singing, and the audience literally sobbing, but the words of the song are addressed to her, the keeper of his hearth, the woman who is with him every moment: in sorrow, and in joy, and in burdens, and in glory. Tamilla once told reporters: "Someone will think this is funny, but this is a fact. And this is happiness. We infinitely lack time for each other, because there is also theater and rehearsals. But we are there every hour of life."
This couple radiates with their unity a certain aura of goodness and light, which brings harmony to the far from easy world of theater. To the question: what is the secret of their marital happiness, they answer: "We are sure that our union was made in heaven. When there is a genuine feeling, then over time it only becomes stronger."
Unique caption from the "Blue Light" 1964. All women, listening to this romance performed by Nikolai Slichenko, were sure that he sings personally for her.
All peoples have their own traditions. Recently, a video of a gypsy wedding with a rain of gold and 500 euro bills has been circulating on the Internet.
