On November 10, the opening of the New Names festival took place in Nizhny Novgorod. This is a music festival that has been held for 25 times, and only children aged 6-15 take part in it. This year, 44 participants came to the event, who play different musical instruments.
Olga Tomina, director of the Rostropovich Nizhny Novgorod Philharmonic, performed during the opening ceremony of this festival. She said that the organizers had to do a tremendous job in order to select musicians worthy to take part in the festival among the numerous applications.
Over the past years, 995 young talents have taken part in the festival. Some of these young talents are already teachers and members of the local orchestra, as well as other orchestras. Former participants can be found far outside the Russian Federation - in the Netherlands, England, France, Belgium and other countries.
The festival with the name "New Names" does not last very long, only a couple of days, and on November 11 it is already scheduled to close with the selection of the best young musicians. During the festival, children perform compositions for a variety of musical instruments, including: a xylophone. Piano, button accordion, cello, horns, balalaika, domra, saxophone, guitar, organ, violin.
During the days of this festival, more precisely on November 10 and 11, in the main foyer of the Philharmonic, it was simultaneously decided to hold an exhibition of children's art works. The works of novice artists were selected for this exhibition. The works that were worthy of this show were preliminarily selected through a competitive selection. This selection was attended by students of city art schools, as well as art schools of the region.
For the first time the festival with the name "New Names" was held in 1994. The organizer of this event was the Nizhny Novgorod Philharmonic Society, together with an international charitable program called "New Names". This program is in effect and now it is only the Interregional Public Charitable Fund. The New Names Festival is held under the patronage of the Nizhny Novgorod Governor.
Young talents who won the festival receive a scholarship from an interregional public charitable foundation. Several dozen young musicians are awarded with scholarships of the governor, scholarships of sponsors and administration.
