“Real men play hockey,” the famous song says. Indeed, professions that require strength, courage and fortitude were associated with the image of a real man in those days. The boys dreamed of becoming astronauts, hockey players, pilots, etc. The profession of a fashion model not only did not fit into this series - it did not even exist in the minds of the majority. Therefore history the first male model in the USSR Lev Anisimov now it seems just amazing.

The model house on Kuznetsky Most was opened back in 1944, but at that time only women worked there. Men's clothes were shown by random people - workers, janitors, etc. The profession of a model was not only not considered male - for many it was beneath their own dignity. In addition, the "clothing demonstrators" received a janitor's salary - 67 rubles.

In an interview, Lev Anisimov recalls: “In the spring of 1966, the art council of the All-Union House of Fashion Models urgently needed a model. I have never participated before, but at the request of my friend I came to help. In another interview, he says that he worked in a clinic as a dental technician, once a fashion model came to his appointment and offered to try himself in a new role.

Lev Anisimov got into the Model House by accident, but stayed there for 30 years. “Male model - the idea was that it was easy work, easy money. Moreover, they thought it was a lot of money,”says Anisimov. Although the work was not the easiest one - during fittings I had to stand motionless for 3-4 hours. “It used to be that the fashion designer would run back to the corner of the hall and look for a long time at what stroke was still missing - some models even fell asleep, others almost fainted from fatigue,” recalls Lev Anisimov.

Lev Anisimov quickly became popular. His photo was often published in the magazines "Health" and "I sew myself." He was a member of all Soviet delegations during business trips abroad. Before the visit to New York, the models were given $ 5 each and warned: if they start pestering them, give them back so they don't get beaten. They instructed: “Don't talk a lot, don't talk. Talk about our good life, that everything is fine with us, do not create a negative impression."

The appearance of the first model does not meet modern beauty standards, and even at that time they did not have any special requirements: “Normal anthropological data: so that the shoulders are wide, so that it is not stooped, so that the measurements fit the existing GOST standards. We then proposed industrial models, and in factories were indignant: again we would have to redo the patterns. In general, women worked of all sizes. A woman could start from size 44 and work up to 60 years old up to size 54,”says Anisimov.

In 2002, the Model House was closed, and the model returned to the hobby of his youth - amateur hockey. He worked as an administrator with the clubs "Liman", "Tigers", "Center", "Eurochem", "Biochem", "NkKHL". After all, real men play hockey! Representatives of a non-prestigious profession in the USSR rarely achieved noticeable success, an example of this is the tragic fate of "Soviet Sophia Loren", fashion model Regina Zbarskaya
